Minecraft is a popular sandbox game that lets players create and explore virtual worlds made up of blocks. To simplify the process of launching the game, creating a desktop shortcut can be incredibly useful. In this article, we will guide you through the detailed steps of making a Minecraft desktop shortcut for quick and easy access.

Step 1: Locating the Minecraft Executable

The first step is to locate the Minecraft executable file on your computer. Typically, the executable file is located in the game's installation folder. Follow the steps below to find it:

  1. Open the File Explorer (Windows key + E) or Finder (for Mac).
  2. Navigate to the drive where Minecraft is installed. It is usually in the "C:" drive for Windows users.
  3. Open the "Program Files" folder (or "Applications" folder for Mac).
  4. Search for the "Minecraft" folder.
  5. Inside the Minecraft folder, locate the executable file. It is called "minecraft.exe" for Windows and "minecraft" for Mac.

Step 2: Creating the Shortcut

Now that we have located the Minecraft executable file, let's proceed with creating the desktop shortcut:

  1. Right-click on the Minecraft executable file.
  2. A context menu will appear. Choose the "Create shortcut" option.
  3. A new shortcut file will be created in the same folder. It will have the same name as the executable file but with the extension ".lnk" (Windows) or no extension (Mac).
  4. Click and drag the shortcut file to your desktop or any desired location.

Step 3: Customizing the Shortcut

At this point, you have successfully created a Minecraft desktop shortcut. However, you can customize the shortcut to make it more visually appealing or distinguishable:

  1. Right-click on the shortcut file.
  2. Select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac) from the context menu.
  3. In the properties window, you can change the name of the shortcut by editing the "Name" field.
  4. Click on the "Change Icon" button to choose a different icon for your shortcut. You can select from the available Minecraft-related icons or even use a custom icon of your choice.
